Beyond Melbourne’s bustling heart lies the Yuroke District. It’s a place where time seems to slow down. The Yuroke District whispers stories of a simpler past. The Yuroke District held a unique position in Victoria’s political landscape. Established in 2002, this electoral district encompassed suburbs like Attwood, Craigieburn, Greenvale, Kalkallo, Mickleham, and of course, Yuroke itself. Parts of Roxburgh Park, Somerton, and Westmeadows also fell within its boundaries. The Yuroke District was a significant area. It spanned 180 square kilometers. For two decades, the Yuroke District reliably voted for the Labor Party. It was considered a safe Labor seat. The community elected Liz Beattie and Ros Spence as their representatives in the Victorian Legislative Assembly. They served from 2002 to 2014 and 2014 to 2022, respectively. The Yuroke District’s story took a turn in 2022. The Electoral Boundaries Commission redrew the map. The Yuroke District was abolished. It was replaced by the electoral districts of Kalkallo and Greenvale. The Yuroke District may no longer exist on political maps. Its legacy remains woven into the fabric of the communities it once represented.
