Has anyone ever noticed how a single point of light can cut through the darkest night? Here at the Lichtstele in Kassel, that’s not just a metaphor. This striking luminaire, installed in 2018, isn’t your average streetlight. It’s a beacon, a work of art, and a testament to Kassel’s vibrant cultural scene. The Lichtstele, commissioned by Städtische Werke and handcrafted in Italy, stands tall at 10.5 meters, its ring-like structure, a full meter in diameter, holding 32 lenses. These lenses, part of the LS13 series, cast a warm, 3000K glow on the streets below, ensuring safe passage for pedestrians and traffic. But the Lichtstele is more than just a source of illumination. Its 200mm deep exterior walls house a hidden magic: RGB-configured lights. These lights can transform the surrounding buildings into a canvas, showering the streets with a vibrant display of color during special events. Imagine the Lichtstele during one of Kassel’s famous festivals, its light dancing in harmony with the celebrations, painting the historic architecture in a kaleidoscope of hues. It’s a modern spectacle that intertwines with the city’s rich artistic heritage. The Lichtstele in Kassel. It is a symbol of innovation, where functionality meets artistic expression. It reminds us that even in the mundane, beauty can be found, if we only look up.
