A cornerstone. That’s what it felt like. Solid. Unmoving. This is the Gereja Katolik Keluarga Kudus Paroki Pasar Minggu.
The Gereja Katolik Keluarga Kudus Paroki Pasar Minggu stands before you. It’s more than just a building. It’s a testament to faith perseverance and community. This Jakarta church began humbly. In around 1957 Mass was celebrated in the home of Alfonsus Gondosoemarto a Djawatan Pertanian Rakyat Pusat employee. Imagine the small gatherings the quiet devotion within those walls.
The church’s location shifted several times due to capacity issues. Finally a building was erected on Jalan Pertanian III. This building continues to serve as the church’s home today. It wasn’t always so grand though.
The story really takes off in 1964. Pasar Minggu became a station of Jakarta’s Cathedral. Archbishop Adrianus Djajasepoetra SJ appointed RD Stanislaus Sutopanitro as the first priest. A significant step for the growing community. The Paroki Pasar Minggu’s official birth however is marked by the first baptism on February 12 1967.
Construction of the church building itself began on July 8 1973 with Archbishop Leo Soekoto blessing it on June 2 1974. A remarkable feat of community effort. A testament to the unwavering dedication of the parishioners.
Growth led to expansion. In 1994 part of Paroki Pasar Minggu became Paroki Jagakarsa. The Gereja Katolik Keluarga Kudus Paroki Pasar Minggu itself wasn’t left untouched. From June 12 1994 renovations began. Another milestone in this church’s history. These renovations lasting throughout 1995 culminated in a blessing by RP Martinus Soenarwidjaja SJ on April 13 1996.
Today the Gereja Katolik Keluarga Kudus Paroki Pasar Minggu flourishes. Daily masses are held. Weekly masses are celebrated. Its impressive architecture stands as a beacon of faith in Jakarta. It’s much more than bricks and mortar. It’s a living breathing testament to faith hope and love. It’s a place where generations of families have found comfort and community. This is the Gereja Katolik Keluarga Kudus Paroki Pasar Minggu. A place of worship a symbol of steadfastness a home.
