Ready to embark on a journey through the skies. We are standing before the Museo de la Fuerza Aerea. This is not just a museum. It is a tribute to Ecuador’s aviation history.

The Museo de la Fuerza Aerea began in 1972. It started as a collection of historical objects. Major Galo Coronel Drouet gathered them for display. The location was the Cosme Rennella Aviation School. In 1986, the museum was inaugurated at the Mariscal Sucre Air Base. This was during President León Febres Cordero’s term.

The Museo de la Fuerza Aerea is unique in Ecuador. It preserves and shares the country’s aviation history. The museum showcases photographs and uniforms. Also on display are weapons and pictorial galleries.

One of the most thrilling features is the original aircraft. These include training, transport and combat planes. You will see Ecuador’s first wood and fabric airplane. Visitors can admire an airplane’s interior. You can even experience virtual flights. A simulator lets you fly FAE planes. The Museo de la Fuerza Aerea also hosts traveling exhibits.

The museum’s collection expanded thanks to donations. The Rennella family contributed significantly. Aviation enthusiasts also helped.

Inside the Museo de la Fuerza Aerea, discover the pioneers of Ecuadorian aviation. Cosme Rennella of Guayaquil was a key figure. Pedro Traversari from Quito was another. The museum honors their legacy. They both soared through Ecuadorian skies.

Explore the museum’s different halls. The first hall displays photographs and scale models. These exhibits cover the period from 1910 to 1980. The second hall features paintings. They depict aviation’s evolution. See images from ancient cultures to space missions.

The Museo de la Fuerza Aerea also has a library. It holds accounts from various air forces. A C-130 Hércules plane serves as a video library. Here, you can watch videos of the institution’s activities.

Don’t miss the flight simulator. It offers virtual aviation practice. This is fun for all ages.

Outside, in the Parque Estático, you can see significant aircraft. These planes served the FAE since the 1950s. Among them is an English Canberra bomber from 1956. There is also a Meteor fighter-bomber from 1954. Other planes include a T-33A, two Trojans and a DC-6B. You’ll also find an AVRO, an AT-6 and a C-47. Do not forget the B-23, two Cessna planes and a B-25J. An impressive PBY-Catalina seaplane from 1970 also stands here. Finally, there is a Chickasaw S-55 helicopter. It was used for transport and rescue since 1965.

The Museo de la Fuerza Aerea is more than displays. It is a tribute to those who dared to fly. This museum is a must-see. It is a place to learn about Ecuador’s aviation. The address is Av. La Prensa y Carlos V. It is inside the Air Base. You can also enter through Bicentenario Park. Admission is free.
