Let me tell you about Ulubatli Hasan. He was a Timarli Sipahi in Sultan Mehmed II’s service. He became a legend as a heroic martyr during the Siege of Constantinople. Hasan was born in Ulubat near Bursa in 1428. He was 25 during the siege.
On May 29 1453 Constantinople was stormed. Ulubatli Hasan was among the first to scale the city walls with thirty friends. He carried an Ottoman kilij a small shield and the Ottoman flag.
