Ever wonder what life was like centuries ago in a quaint German village? The Brückenhofmuseum opens a window into that world. This local history museum is in Oberdollendorf. It is part of Königswinter in the Rhein-Sieg district.

The Brückenhofmuseum began in 1991. It is housed in the former Brückenhof winery. This is a half-timbered house from the 17th century. The Heimatverein Oberdollendorf und Römlinghoven e. V. runs the museum. The association has over 1100 members.

Let’s step inside the Brückenhofmuseum. Imagine a kitchen from long ago. See a cobbler’s workshop. The attic holds collections about stonemasonry. You will also see carpentry exhibits. Over 300 old group photos await you too.

The Brückenhofmuseum focuses on local and regional history. It also displays art in special exhibits. It is near the Rheinsteig hiking trail. The museum is close to the Hülle viewpoint. It’s also not far from the wine hiking trail to Heisterbach Monastery.

The permanent exhibit includes the Heisterbacher Talbahn. This is a model railway. There are also exhibits about the Siebengebirge rocks. You’ll find a shoemaker’s workshop and a historic kitchen. A demonstration half-timbered structure shows building techniques.

But first, let’s talk about the building itself. The Brückenhof was once a vineyard. It had a gate building from the mid-17th century. A wine press house was part of it too. That wine press house is now in the Kommern Open Air Museum. The main building was built between 1681 and 1684. It replaced an older structure.

The Brückenhof was once called Rennenberger Hof. The noble family of Rennenberg owned it until around 1570. It was one of seven free estates in Oberdollendorf. These estates sent jurors to the Markgedinge. This managed the parish until the Duchy of Berg ended in the early 19th century.

The Brückenhof belonged to the von Moers family from Cologne from the mid-17th century to 1776. In 1798, Mathias Comans inherited it. He was a judge. His widow sold it in 1843. Josef Broel bought the estate in 1847. By then, it was known as Brückenhof. A bridge spanned the Heisterbach stream. This provided access.

The last owners from the Broel family had no children. So, in 1960, they sold the farm to the municipality of Oberdollendorf. In 1969, Königswinter took over. In 1989, the Heimatverein Oberdollendorf und Römlinghoven renovated part of the building. They opened the Brückenhofmuseum in spring 1991.

The Brückenhof is a protected building. It was added to Königswinter’s list of monuments on February 26, 1991.

The Brückenhofmuseum is more than just a building. It’s a portal to the past. It connects us to the people and stories that shaped this region. Take a moment to appreciate the history. Consider the hard work of those who came before us. The Brückenhofmuseum stands as a testament to their legacy.
