“Lo que da valor a las obras es el amor con que se hacen.” This quote, meaning “What gives value to works is the love with which they are made”, perfectly embodies the spirit of the Colegio Adoratrices. This private Catholic school, officially known as Colegio y Liceo Inmaculado Corazón de María, has been a cornerstone of education in Montevideo since its founding in 1889. The Colegio Adoratrices wasn’t always at this location. The founding Sisters Adoratrices, driven by their mission, braved several relocations in the early years. Their dedication was rewarded by a generous donation from Petrona Cibils de Jackson, who saw the school’s potential. Her contribution led to the construction of not just this beautiful school building but also the adjacent Iglesia Santuario Eucarístico Nacional de las Hermanas Adoratrices del Santísimo Sacramento. Over the years, Colegio Adoratrices has constantly evolved. It expanded to include a secondary school for girls in 1935 and became fully co-educational by 1972. Today, Colegio Adoratrices continues to uphold its legacy of providing a well-rounded education. The school takes pride in its bilingual program, offering instruction in both English and Portuguese. The two spacious internal patios and an indoor gymnasium provide ample space for students to learn and thrive. Colegio Adoratrices stands as a testament to the enduring power of education and faith.
