Is there a more noble profession than one dedicated to relieving pain? Here at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry, that question is answered every day. The Texas A&M College of Dentistry, established in 1905 as the State Dental College, has a long and fascinating history. Originally a private three-year program, it awarded degrees to its first graduating class of four in 1908. In 1918, Baylor University took over its operation, renaming it the Baylor University School of Dentistry. The State of Texas wouldn’t assume control until 1971, creating a non-profit corporation and changing the name to Baylor College of Dentistry. After several more name changes and administrative reorganizations, it finally became the Texas A&M College of Dentistry in 2016. Today, the Texas A&M College of Dentistry is a renowned institution, responsible for training a significant portion of dentists in Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It stands as a testament to the enduring importance of oral health and the dedication of those who choose to make it their life’s work.
