Have you noticed the unusual design of Haus Peter? This house before you holds a story of architectural innovation. It also whispers tales of family life.
Haus Peter was built in 1932 and the family moved in in March 1933. The architect, Philipp Peter, designed it for himself. He was definitely experimenting with space and light here.
Notice how the ground floor layout is quite different. The kitchen and bathroom face the street. These rooms are on the north side. The sun never shines directly here. It’s a practical choice to keep these rooms cool. The small windows also help.
The architect was following a trend that is still alive today. He put the living room windows towards the garden. This creates a more private and intimate space. On this ground floor are three more rooms used as living rooms and a bedroom.
Inside, the hallways and staircases have a minimalist design. The entrance is on the north-west side of the house. The small hallway and staircase are also located in the porch.
The west side of Haus Peter has a full upper floor. There is a bedroom and a small room. Look at the windows on this side. There are four windows and they all have different shapes and sizes. What do you think the architect wanted to tell us with that?
The eastern part of the upper floor has a sloping roof. The chimney wasn’t part of the original 1933 design. It was added later in 1949. Haus Peter stands as a testament to unique design. It is a home where function meets artistic expression. It’s a building that still sparks questions today.
