Is it possible for a building to whisper tales of resilience over centuries? Here, before Masjid Al Mubarak in Jakarta, history isn’t just etched in stone. It lives in every prayer. It echoes in every call to faith.

Masjid Al Mubarak is a testament to Jakarta’s vibrant past. It stands as a symbol of faith and community. The story of Masjid Al Mubarak is a fascinating journey through time. It reflects the diverse influences that have shaped Jakarta.

Let’s journey back to 1527. Pangeran Adipati Awangga, also known as Pangeran Kuningan, built the first Masjid Al Mubarak. He and his forces joined with Demak and Cirebon. They were led by Falatehan. Together they reclaimed Sunda Kelapa from Padjajaran. They renamed it Jayakarta.

Pangeran Kuningan led his people south. He traveled via the Krukut River. He established a new settlement. This area became known as Kampung Kuningan. His leadership was centered around the original Masjid Kuningan. We know it today as Masjid Al Mubarak.

Pangeran Kuningan died in 1579. He was buried about 200 meters north of Masjid Al Mubarak. Today his tomb lies within the Telkom complex. His followers are buried behind the Masjid Al Mubarak.

Masjid Al Mubarak has been a steadfast presence. It has witnessed Jakarta’s transformation. It evolved from a small settlement to a bustling metropolis.

In the 1920s the original Masjid Al Mubarak collapsed. It was rebuilt. Builders used the original foundation. They reconstructed it to 65 percent of its initial form.

The government recognized the Masjid Al Mubarak significance. It was designated as a protected monument. It initially happened under Ordonansi no 238 in 1931. Later it was affirmed through Lembaran Daerah no 60 in 1972.

Masjid Al Mubarak became a hub. People came to learn about Islam. Workers from nearby offices would pray there. Especially during Friday prayers.

The Masjid Al Mubarak is more than a building. It embodies Jakarta’s historical journey. It is a symbol of enduring faith. It is a testament to community spirit. It has grown from a marshland to a modern city.

Imagine the prayers that have been offered within these walls. Envision the community gatherings. Think about the lessons learned. The Masjid Al Mubarak is not just a relic of the past. It’s a living, breathing part of Jakarta’s soul. It connects the past with the present. It offers solace and guidance to generations.
