Gazing up at Le Moulin d’Orgemont, did you know it’s far more than just a picturesque windmill? It’s a time capsule, whispering tales of nearly nine centuries. Le Moulin d’Orgemont takes its name from its original owners, the d’Orgemont family, who were lords of Saint-Gratien. Imagine this spot in the 12th century, not a restaurant, but a watchful tower, guarding the landscape. Le Moulin d’Orgemont has worn many hats: windmill, obviously, but also a guinguette (a lively open-air tavern), and even a base camp for Prussian troops in the 19th century. It wasn’t until 1951 that Le Moulin d’Orgemont embraced its current identity as a restaurant, thanks to a Parisian restaurateur, Mr. Zick. The d’Orgemont family’s legacy still lingers in the air, a thread connecting us to the past. Since 1851, the terrace has offered breathtaking views of Parisian landmarks: the Sacré-Cœur, the Eiffel Tower, La Défense. Le Moulin d’Orgemont has been a local favorite, thanks to the dedication of its successive owners. In 2022, a fresh chapter began. The Yalap family, experienced entrepreneurs behind the Isho Group, took the reins. They meticulously renovated Le Moulin d’Orgemont, preserving its historical charm while breathing new life into it. The Yalaps, restaurateurs for over 15 years, partnered with Chef Yoann Gaudin to create “Le Faubourg” restaurant, the third establishment to bear that name. They already had success with “Le Faubourg” restaurants in Enghien-les-Bains (opened in 2017) and La Défense, Nanterre (opened in 2020). Their values of kindness, respect, and trust are woven into the fabric of their establishments, including here at Le Moulin d’Orgemont. “Il Mulino,” an Italian restaurant, pays homage to Argenteuil’s historic Italian community. And “Le Carrousel,” a dinner-dance hall and reception space, adds another dimension to this vibrant location. So, as you enjoy the panoramic view, remember the layers of history beneath your feet, the whispers of centuries past at Le Moulin d’Orgemont.
