Beneath the academic sky of Buenos Aires stands CBC Drago. It is more than just a building. It is a launchpad for dreams.

CBC Drago functions as part of the University of Buenos Aires. Specifically, it’s a campus for the Ciclo Básico Común. That translates to the “Common Basic Cycle.” Think of it as the freshman year for every degree program at the University.

In 1985, the University of Buenos Aires implemented the CBC. It replaced entrance exams. The goal? Give every student a solid foundation.

Here at CBC Drago, students take six subjects. Two cover general topics. Two relate to their chosen field. And two are specific to their intended degree.

The aim is to develop critical thinking. It also teaches effective learning methods. Plus, it promotes ethical, civic, and democratic values.

The UBA is one of Argentina’s largest universities. It is also one of the most respected in the Spanish-speaking world. A strong start at CBC Drago is key to success here.

Students usually complete the CBC in a year. About half do. Almost 30 percent finish in a year and a half. You can take up to six semesters to finish as a regular student.

You don’t have to be a regular student to take CBC classes. You can even take them through UBA XXI. This program helps high school students get a head start.

Since its start, the CBC has faced debate. People have proposed reforms to it. But, it helps students arrive prepared for their chosen studies.

Back in 2009, the CBC added a second enrollment period. Now, you can enroll in May and July. This lets you start in the second semester.

Since 2010, graduates get a completion certificate. It lists their grades in each subject.

CBC Drago is named “Leónidas Anastasi (Drago).” People call it “Drago” for short. This is because it is near the Luis María Drago station. The station serves the General Mitre Railway.

Luis María Drago was an Argentine statesman. He was also a respected author. He is best known for the Drago Doctrine. This opposed military intervention to collect debts from South American countries. Drago was Argentina’s foreign minister from 1902-1903.

He was born in Buenos Aires in 1859. He died there in 1921. He was a newspaper editor before entering government.

He represented Argentina at the Hague Peace Conference in 1907. Later, he served on an arbitration tribunal. This tribunal settled a fishing dispute between Britain and the U.S.

From CBC Drago, you might pursue studies in Agronomy or Architecture. Perhaps you’re interested in Economics or Science. Law, Medicine, and Psychology are also on the cards. The options are wide open.

Remember this place as more than classrooms. CBC Drago stands as the starting point for countless journeys.
