“A life of unity in contrast to the division of the Churches at that time”. These powerful words, spoken by Caroline Malvesin, still resonate at Place Malvesin in Courbevoie. Place Malvesin may appear unassuming, but it stands as a testament to a woman who dared to challenge the norm and dedicate her life to serving others. Caroline Malvesin, a name synonymous with compassion, co-founded the community of deaconesses of Reuilly in Paris. Driven by her faith, she sought to alleviate the plight of the marginalized. The deaconesses, defying societal expectations, took vows of poverty, obedience, and celibacy. They dedicated themselves to serving the poorest of the poor, offering solace and support to those forgotten by society. Though initially met with resistance from the Protestant churches, the deaconesses’ unwavering commitment to their calling eventually earned them respect and admiration. Their legacy, much like Place Malvesin itself, serves as a quiet reminder of the power of compassion and the impact one person’s unwavering belief can have on the world.
