Founded in 1964 the Samoan Assembly of God in Auckland stands as a testament to faith and cultural heritage. It’s more than just a building. It’s a vibrant community hub. It’s a place where the spirit of Pentecost lives and breathes. This Auckland church is part of a larger movement. This movement began in Samoa in the 1960s. Pentecostal beliefs from Samoa found fertile ground in New Zealand. Samoan immigrants brought their faith with them. They established the Samoan Assembly of God. It quickly became one of the fastest-growing churches in New Zealand.

The Samoan Assembly of God in Auckland wasn’t always in its current location. It originally began in Grey Lynn. It was later renamed Auckland Samoan A/G in 1998. The church grew rapidly. Weekly attendance soared to over 800 people. This growth highlights the community’s deep spiritual connection and the church’s importance.

Dr Samani Pulepule played a significant role. He was a founding member. He served as the General Superintendent for decades. His leadership guided the Samoan Assembly of God for many years. He also led the Grey Lynn church. He served internationally too. He held the position of Worldwide Chairman of the Samoan Assemblies of God International Fellowship. Dr Pulepule retired in 2011. He and his wife passed away shortly thereafter. Their legacy continues to inspire.

The Samoan Assembly of God in Auckland has faced challenges. In 2005 a significant split occurred. Some members formed their own independent body. Despite the division the Samoan Assembly of God continued to thrive. The church has over 120 churches across New Zealand. They still work alongside those who left in 2005.

The church has experienced both joy and sorrow. In 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic a major outbreak occurred. The Mangere church was linked to many cases. This situation tested the faith of the congregation. It also highlighted the community’s resilience and support for one another.

The Samoan Assembly of God in Auckland is more than a place of worship. It is a beacon of faith. It is a center for community. It is a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit. Its story is one of growth perseverance and unwavering devotion. It’s a story that continues to unfold each day.
