Have you heard the tale of a church that rose from the ashes? It started in 1896, when Lady Wauchope, a philanthropic soul, opened up a cottage on the Niddrie Estate. This humble dwelling became the foundation for what is now known as Niddrie Community Church. This church, affectionately known as the “Mission,” has seen its fair share of changes over the years. It moved to its present location on Hay Drive in the 1950s, becoming part of the Edinburgh City Mission. In 1996, Charlotte Chapel, a large Edinburgh church, decided to support the Mission. They renamed it Niddrie Community Church and, through a remarkable act of faith, raised the necessary funds to build a brand new church building. This building, a beacon of hope in the community, opened its doors in March 2006. Today, Niddrie Community Church stands tall on Hay Drive, a testament to the power of community and the enduring spirit of faith.
