Journey back to 660 BC. King Byzas, seeking guidance from the oracle at Temple Apollo, was told to build his city opposite the “City of the Blind”. Confused but determined, Byzas journeyed east, eventually reaching the Bosphorus Strait. He chose the European side, directly across from a Greek settlement on the Asian side, believing those settlers to be the “blind” ones for overlooking such a prime location. This strategic point, known today as Sarayburnu, became Byzantium, the precursor to Cevatpaşa and the grand city of Istanbul. Cevatpaşa, nestled within Istanbul, holds a piece of this ancient history. Overlooking the Bosphorus, where Byzas first landed, Cevatpaşa offers a unique perspective on Istanbul’s transformation. Today, Cevatpaşa is a bustling suburb, home to nearly 19,000 people, as recorded in 2017. It represents a blend of Istanbul’s vibrant past and its dynamic present.
