Right here in Makati City stands Holy Family Parish. It is more than just a building. It is a testament to faith and community spirit. Let’s uncover its story together.
Holy Family Parish began as a humble chapel. It was named after St. Isidro in the 1960s. St. Isidro is the patron saint of agriculture. This chapel served the agricultural community of that time. It was a reminder of the area’s past as swamp and agricultural land.
In the 1980s, a stronger structure was built. Fr. Renato Frias oversaw this construction. However, confusion arose. Did the community belong to Sta. Clara Parish in Pasay? Or did they belong to San Ildefonso Parish in Makati? Bishop Gabriel Reyes decided the chapel should be part of San Ildefonso Parish. Fr. John Rizzato of the Salesians of Don Bosco agreed. He united the barangay under one parish.
1987 marked a significant turning point. Fr. Douglas envisioned the future church as a shrine. It would be under the guidance of the Holy Family. He noticed the community’s unity and love. They worked together to build their place of worship. This mirrored the spirit of San Isidro Labrador. Because a San Isidro Parish already existed on Taft Avenue, they embraced the Holy Family. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph became the patrons.
Finally, on April 26, 1993, Holy Family Church was officially established as a parish. The Holy Family Parish stands as a symbol of unity. It embodies peace and love within the community. It grew from a simple chapel. It overcame challenges and embraced its identity. The Holy Family Parish continues to be a beacon of faith. It is a place where community bonds are strengthened. It is a place where the values of the Holy Family are celebrated. Take a moment to appreciate the journey of this parish. Consider the dedication of those who built it. Remember the spirit of unity that defines it.
