Established with just six members in 1893 Hayes Lane Baptist Church has a long and interesting past. Since then the church has grown. It has continued to worship God in Bromley. These days the Hayes Lane Baptist Church has a membership of around 100 people.
The church is located on Hayes Lane. The building is slightly set back from the road. It is on the opposite side of the road to Ravensbourne School. If you’re coming via public transport it is about a 15 minute walk from Bromley South train station.
The Church is more than just a building. It is the people. The Hayes Lane Baptist Church traces its roots to a group of believers. They started meeting in the north of Bromley in 1893. The present building was opened in 1928. It has served the congregation well over the years. The church has grown. It has extended the building to accommodate its larger congregation and extensive youth work.
The first pastor was appointed in 1924. He worked part-time until 1951. The first full-time pastor served from 1960 until 1979. There have been several others since then. Dan joined as the new pastor in 2021. In recent years the church has also employed other members. They serve the church on a part-time or full-time basis. Currently there are three paid staff.
There have been many changes over the years. The Hayes Lane Baptist Church has sought to worship God and serve the neighbourhood. However they still believe and teach the same Biblical message. It is a message of God’s goodness and love. This message was at the heart of the first congregation in 1928.
Hayes Lane is a Grace Baptist Church. Grace is central to what they believe. It describes God’s love. God sent His Son Jesus as an outpouring of love for the world. Jesus lived a perfect life. He died as a sacrifice in place of men and women. These people have rebelled against the Creator God. This rebellion is called sin in the Bible.
People deserve punishment. Instead God chose to save people. He did this because of His loving grace.
Baptism is central to Hayes Lane Baptist Church. It is a command from Jesus. His followers should publicly identify as a Christian. They do this by being baptised. This means being dipped under water. The water is not special or holy. It symbolises the washing away of sins. People rise out of the water to a new life of following Jesus.
Hayes Lane Baptist Church is a friendly Christian community. It welcomes others to join in worship and service to God. The emphasis is on learning and understanding the Bible. They follow the example of Jesus and his followers.
The vision of Hayes Lane Baptist Church is to make an impact for God in Bromley. It helps people understand the enriching messages of eternal hope. These messages were given by Jesus Christ through His words and deeds.
Hayes Lane Baptist Church offers many groups and activities. These include home groups kids and youth activities and a ladies’ group. A men’s group a football academy community singers Christianity Explored and marriage courses are also available.
Hayes Lane Baptist Church welcomes everyone. They encourage others to join them in their life-enhancing Christian journey. You can find Sunday services at 10:30 am and 6 pm.
