“Lost in prayer?” a soft voice startled me. I blinked, turning to see an elderly man smiling kindly. He gestured towards Masjid An-Noor. “A sanctuary, even for the lost.” Masjid An-Noor, in the bustling heart of Ciputat, Tangerang Selatan, isn’t your typical Indonesian mosque. Opened in late 2023, its sleek, modern design stands out. It’s a beacon of minimalist architecture, blending seamlessly into the urban landscape along the Jakarta-Bogor route. Masjid An-Noor offers a welcome respite for travelers on Jalan RE Martadinata. It’s easily spotted across from the Bunda Ciputat Mother and Child Hospital, just a kilometer west of the Pamulang toll exit. The mosque’s strategic location is surrounded by familiar landmarks like TipTop Ciputat and Sari Asih Ciputat Hospital. Remarkably, Masjid An-Noor’s construction, starting in February 2022, was swift and relatively unnoticed. The Dewan Kemakmuran Masjid (DKM) aimed for a minimalist design that prioritized functionality and benefit, evident in the mosque’s impressive facilities. A modern parking system greets visitors, ensuring vehicle safety. The ample parking space, clean ablution areas, and abundant air conditioning, coupled with marble floors, provide comfort and encourage prayer. Inside, a blend of minimalism and luxury awaits. The main prayer hall on the second floor is a vision in white and gray marble, contrasted by a striking black dome overhead. A crystal chandelier illuminates the space, adding a futuristic touch. Black accents, particularly on the doors and mimbar wall, enhance the modern aesthetic. From a distance, the interplay of white, black, and gray creates a stainless-steel effect. Simple window designs maintain a sense of warmth and intimacy. Outside, a Middle Eastern ambiance is evoked with green lawns and date palms, all under the watchful gaze of a 35-meter minaret. Masjid An-Noor has quickly become a cherished local landmark. Its convenient location and tranquil atmosphere draw both travelers and residents seeking a moment of peace. The mosque’s unique design sets it apart. The careful attention to detail and the blend of modern and traditional elements creates a truly memorable experience. As my new friend and I entered the mosque, I understood why he called it a sanctuary. Masjid An-Noor offers a refreshing take on religious architecture, a place where modernity and spirituality converge.
