Isn’t it captivating? The story of the Hadım İbrahim Pasha Mosque. It stands as a testament to Ottoman architecture.

Welcome to the Hadım İbrahim Pasha Mosque. This 16th-century Ottoman mosque is in Istanbul. It’s located in the Silivrikapi neighborhood. The mosque is also known as Hadım İbrahim Paşa Camii in Turkish.

Hadım İbrahim Pasha Mosque was designed by Mimar Sinan. He was the Ottoman imperial architect. He created it for Hadım İbrahim Pasha. He was a Bosniak vizier. The building was completed in 1551. This mosque reflects the grandeur of the Ottoman era.

The Hadım İbrahim Pasha Mosque is a domed cube with an attached portico. The main dome spans 12 meters. That equals about 39 feet. It rests on eight internal buttresses. Three tiers of windows illuminate the interior. The portico features five small domes. These domes are supported by arches. Marble columns add to their elegance. The stone minaret stands at the southwest end of the portico. It was rebuilt in 1763-64. The mosque shares design similarities with the Bali Pasha Mosque. This earlier mosque was completed in 1504-05. It is in Istanbul’s Yenibahçe district.

Step inside and admire the Iznik tiles. These tiles decorate the mosque. Under the portico, you will find three lunette panels. There are also two roundels. The underglaze painted tiles display white thuluth lettering. It is reserved on a dark cobalt blue background. Flowers in purple and turquoise embellish the letters. Above the mihrab, is a large lunette panel. It is painted in cobalt blue, turquoise, and dark olive green. The purple coloring is unique. It is characteristic of the “Damascus” style of Iznik pottery. These panels help to establish the chronology. They show the different styles adopted by the Iznik potters.

The Hadım İbrahim Pasha Mosque underwent repairs and maintenance in 2007. It remains open for worship. Its exterior walls run along Silivrikapı Caddesi. Three entrance gates lead to the courtyard. Hadım İbrahim Pasha commissioned Mimar Sinan to build it in 1551. The minaret is adjacent to the mosque. The founder rests in an open tomb here. Originally, it was built as a külliye. Only the mosque remains today. It is constructed with cut stone and brick. The last congregation area features five domes. It also has six columns. Aluminum closures are between the arcades. The mihrab is special. It has blue-white tiles. The minbar and muezzin platform are made of marble.

Notice the square-planned cubic structure. The fountain is attached to the wall. Dome tromps rest on abutment walls. The drum has honeycomb windows.

As you leave the Hadım İbrahim Pasha Mosque, remember its history. It is a blend of architectural brilliance and artistic detail. The Hadım İbrahim Pasha Mosque stands as a symbol of Istanbul’s rich cultural heritage.
