This imposing structure, completed in 1976, holds back the waters of the Nabara River, creating the Nabara Reservoir. The dam is 85.5 meters high and 305 meters long, a concrete giant that plays a crucial role in the region’s energy production. Deep within the dam, hidden from our view, are two 310,000-kilowatt hydroelectric generators, tirelessly churning out electricity for the people of Hiroshima. The Nabara Dam isn’t just about power generation. It also forms the lower reservoir for the pumped-storage hydroelectric power station, connected to the upper reservoir at the Myojin Dam.
