Thirty-five determined individuals. That’s how Masjid Al-Ikhlas began. Their dream a vibrant center for prayer and Islamic teachings in Cipete. It all started in 1967. These community leaders from various housing complexes envisioned more than just a mosque. They wanted a spiritual hub. A place of worship for all.
Masjid Al-Ikhlas wasn’t built overnight. The initial plan was a small mushola. They went door to door tirelessly. Raising funds proved challenging. The people of Cipete embraced their vision. Their efforts eventually bore fruit.
Nine years later the mushola transformed. It became the magnificent Masjid Al-Ikhlas we see today. Construction lasted from 1976 to 1979. Generous donations poured in from various sources. Buya H Amirudin Siregar led the charge. He served as the Chairman of the YMAI. The Yayasan Masjid Al-Ikhlas.
Masjid Al-Ikhlas stands tall. A testament to perseverance. Its 4500 square meters of space house a large congregation. It has two floors accommodating up to 1500 worshippers. The ground floor functions as a versatile hall. It’s used for various community programs. The main prayer hall is upstairs. Additional spacious areas extend to the south and east. They are also vital for community gatherings.
The YMAI’s influence extends beyond the mosque. Adjacent to Masjid Al-Ikhlas are educational buildings. There’s a kindergarten Islamic school. There is also a primary and secondary school. A cooperative store nearby provides essential supplies. It stocks groceries and school uniforms. The entire complex is a bustling center. It serves as a beacon of religious and community life in Cipete. Masjid Al-Ikhlas truly exemplifies a thriving community. It’s a place of worship. A place of learning. A place of unity.
