Emerging from the ashes of a bygone era, the Museo del Tiro Federal Argentino stands as a testament to a time when marksmanship was not just a sport, but a matter of national pride. The Museo del Tiro Federal Argentino, nestled within the bustling city of Buenos Aires, invites you to step back in time and discover the fascinating history of competitive shooting in Argentina. Its origins can be traced back even before the May Revolution, with historical accounts suggesting that Viceroy Santiago de Liniers himself organized shooting competitions among the militia. Officially, the Museo del Tiro Federal Argentino was founded on September 28, 1891, by distinguished members of the Círculo de Armas Club. Their vision extended beyond Buenos Aires, aiming to establish branches in every provincial capital and major city across the Republic. The current building, erected between 1937 and 1940, was once the most modern shooting facility in South America. Designed by the General Directorate of Engineers, this rationalist structure boasts a linear design centered around a 61-meter long central body. The ground floor houses the board’s offices and a grand hall leading to the shooting stand. The upper floor features a foyer, bar, dining area, and a ballroom with access to terraces overlooking the river. Designed with acoustics in mind, the building’s construction allowed for the rapid evacuation and dampening of sound. The striking facades, blending imitation stone plaster with a brick base, and the continuous rows of wood-shuttered windows add to the building’s unique aesthetic. The building itself has stood as a National Historic Monument since 2005. Within the walls of the Museo del Tiro Federal Argentino, you will discover a captivating collection of artifacts. Trophies, cups, photographs, flags, paintings, books, and various other objects tell the story of this historic institution. Originally, the site was part of the land reclaimed for the FIRST NATIONAL HIPPODROME in the 19th century. The area, then known as the “Barrio Parque General Belgrano,” emerged around 1932. With the sale of land by the National Government. This historic building, a monument in its own right, is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a living testament to the history of shooting sports in Argentina. It echoes with the stories of those who honed their skills within its walls, striving for precision and perfection.
