Founded in 1928 by Don Jose Iglesias Sala Corona quickly became a beloved establishment. Don Pepe as he was known had a simple dream. He wanted success. He never imagined Sala Corona’s impact. Today six branches thrive across Mexico City. The original on Bolivar Street remains a landmark. It started serving delicious tortas and tacos. Later beer on tap was added. The combination of flavorful food and refreshing drinks created a popular spot. Artists intellectuals politicians and everyday people gathered. It became a meeting place a hub of activity.
Sala Corona’s success continued. A branch opened on Filomeno Mata. Its retractable dome offers unique views of the Torre Latinoamericana. Another branch was on 16 de Septiembre in the Zocalo. Sadly it closed its doors. A large location was established on Paseo de la Reforma. That too eventually closed. But the spirit of Sala Corona lived on. New locations in Gante and Madero followed. These branches offered terraces and balconies. They provide a pleasant atmosphere.
The Zona Rosa branch also closed. However Sala Corona returned to Reforma. This time near La Diana Cazadora. The pandemic couldn’t stop its momentum. A new branch opened in Toreo de Cuatro Caminos. Through changing times Sala Corona remains. It remains a symbol of Mexico City’s vibrant culture. It remains a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. It’s a testament to Don Pepe’s dream and the enduring appeal of good food and good company. Sala Corona continues to serve delicious food and refreshing beverages.
