Considering a predecessor once stood here, Halling Kirke whispers tales of resilience. Halling Kirke stands in the eastern part of Halling. It is almost seven kilometers southeast of Odder. This church, like many others in Djursland, has a history.

Halling Kirke, as it stands today, is based on surveying and construction drawings from the Danish National Museum. It shares features with Skader Kirke. Both were built around the 1100s. This style is typical of Jutlandic Romanesque village churches.

Imagine Halling Kirke in poor condition. It was demolished in 1879. The new church was built on the same spot. It was divided into rooms like the old church. The tower was added later in 1942. The former porch became a chapel at the same time.

Halling Kirke looks like a Romanesque village church. It is built with red bricks. This is not typical for Romanesque churches. However, it retains some elements. The granite plinth uses blocks from the old church.

Halling Sogn is the smallest in Herredet. It is an annex to Gosmer. Randlev and Bjerager Sogne surround it. The Kattegat also borders it. The church is located a bit west. It is three and a quarter miles south of Aarhus.

The land is low-lying and even. Halling Skov is nearby. The Hads-Ning Hrdr.’s railway goes through the parish.

In 1896, the area was 991 Td. Ld. 492 were sown. This included wheat, rye, barley, oats and mixed grains. There were also green fodder and potatoes. Grazing covered 176. There was also meadow, garden, and woodland.

In 1898, there were 97 horses. Also, 361 cattle, 166 sheep and 427 pigs lived here. Ager and Engs Hrtk. was one half. The Skovskyldshrtk. was 109 Td. There were also inherited farms and leaseholdings.

The population in 1901 was 507 people. They lived in 122 farms and houses. In 1890, people worked in various sectors. This included agriculture, fishing, industry and trade.

The towns in the parish include Halling and Spøttrup. Hov is a transshipment point. It has a harbor and a bathing spot. Halling also includes Gammelhave and Hovmarken.

Halling Kirke belongs to the Rathlousdal Manor. The small church has a nave and chancel. There is a tower to the west and a porch to the south. The nave and chancel are from Roman times. They are made of granite and have flat ceilings. Later changes have erased original features.

In the late Middle Ages, the tower was built. It used monk bricks. The tower was restored in 1778. The porch is a later addition. The altar has a gilded cross. The font is made of granite. The pulpit is in Renaissance style.

Christian IV boarded a ship in Hov Harbor in 1618. He was going to Kalundborg. Today, Halling Kirke stands. It is a testament to faith and history. Its stones whisper stories of generations past. The key can be borrowed.
