How about a story that spans a century of faith and community here at Kaimuki Christian Church? This church’s roots go deeper than you might think. It is more than just a building. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of Kaimuki.

Kaimuki Christian Church began as a simple Sunday school outreach in 1909. Maude Foster was its founder. She saw a need in the community. Many children could not read or write. She started teaching them using the Bible as her textbook. Her classes were first in her home. Later, they moved to the original Queen Lili’uokalani School. This was Kaimuki Christian Church’s humble beginning.

In 1923, Kaimuki Christian Church was officially established. It became a church to serve the spiritual needs of the growing Kaimuki community. The church built its original worship center. It stood from 1923 to 1969.

Fast forward to 1968. Kaimuki Christian School was added to the church’s ministry. Education became an integral part of Kaimuki Christian Church’s mission. In 1970, a new worship center was completed. Pastor Harold Gallagher led this project.

Pastor Ron Arnold arrived in 1993. He envisioned a new future for Kaimuki Christian Church. He led an extensive remodel of the worship center in Gallagher Hall. The church and school campus expanded. This happened onto adjacent properties. Pastor Ron equipped generations of disciples. They served the east Honolulu community. They shared the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ.

In October 2018, Bryan Sands became Lead Pastor. He served until May 2023. In June 2024, Pastor JR Cuevas took the lead.

Kaimuki Christian Church celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. Over 400 people attended the celebration dinner. Former members reconnected. The celebration included ukulele performances worship and hula.

Kaimuki Christian Church has touched thousands of lives. It is a place where faith meets community. It began with a simple act of teaching children. It continues to evolve and serve. As you stand here feel the echoes of a century. This is a place of love learning and enduring faith.
