“A spiritual cornerstone” is how one might describe El Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. It stands on Wilcab Road, a beacon of faith and fellowship in Austin. Founded on August 24, 1930, El Bethel embodies a rich history, a story woven into the fabric of the community. It’s a place where people gather, praying, singing, and sharing stories of faith and resilience. The original fourteen members, including Sis. Fannie Robertson, who gave the church its name, met with the founding pastor Rev. S.P. Hathman. Sis. Robertson felt the name “El Bethel” meant “God is in this place,” and indeed, God’s presence has been felt within these walls for almost a century. El Bethel has seen many changes, but its spirit remains constant. The building has been remodeled several times, with the cornerstone being laid on December 8, 1944. It has been a place of peace and comfort for generations of Austin residents. The church holds a special place in the hearts of many. From its humble beginnings to the vibrant community it is today, El Bethel stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and the strength of the human spirit.
