Today, we stand before Melbourne Girls’ College, a place where the echoes of history blend seamlessly with the aspirations of the future. Melbourne Girls’ College was established in 1994. The school stands on the grounds of the former Richmond Secondary College, which closed its doors in 1992. The founders envisioned a space where girls’ education would be nurtured through innovation and excellence. From its humble beginnings with a mere 300 students, Melbourne Girls’ College has blossomed into a thriving community of over 1400 students. The college remains dedicated to its original vision. It has earned a reputation for fostering creativity, safety, and support. Academic excellence, teamwork, and diversity are the cornerstones of its identity. You’ll notice the college crest features ripples, a tribute to the ever-present Yarra River flowing beside the campus. The river’s significance to the community is profound. The ripples are adorned with the colors purple, white, and green. These colors symbolize a heartfelt homage to the achievements and aspirations of the women’s movement. This school is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of learning, growth, and empowerment, particularly for young women.
