In 1991, a small seed of faith was planted in Dallas, Texas. This seed would blossom into the Mountain View Community Baptist Church. It all began with Homer L. Thomas Jr., his wife Mary, their family, and two other families. They felt a calling to establish a church in their community after 14 years of service at Rocky Spring Baptist Church. Mountain View Community Baptist Church’s first service was held in the Thomas family’s living room at 723 Kelso Drive. After a month of home services, they found a temporary home at Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Cliff thanks to Pastor David Kirkendall and mission pastor Kenny Moore. Calvary Baptist sponsored the burgeoning Mountain View Community Baptist Church. They even allowed them to use a building at 4911 Wisteria to help them grow. In return, Mountain View tithed a percentage of their income to the Baptist Convention and the Dallas Baptist Association. The church thrived in this new space, welcoming many families from the community. Two years later, an incredible opportunity arose. Brother Kenny Moore informed Pastor Thomas about a vacant church building at 5916 Marine Way, complete with two acres of land. This property, situated right in the heart of the community they were called to serve, became their new home. Around 2002, Pastor Thomas felt a pull to resign. However, through prayer and fasting, he received divine guidance not to resign but to relocate the church south of Interstate 20. This led them to their current location at 5601 Mountain Creek Parkway. In 2004, they purchased the land from Grace Presbyterian Church for $240,000. Construction began in 2008, and by 2009, the Mountain View Community Baptist Church stood proudly in its new sanctuary. Since then, the church has continued to grow, witnessing countless individuals embrace their faith. Driven by their mission “To bring people to Jesus,” Mountain View Community Baptist Church has expanded its vision. They are currently working on building a full-time daycare, a food pantry, a fellowship hall, administrative offices, and after-school programs. Their journey reflects their unwavering faith and dedication to serving their community.
