Robust testing matters. Here at the Singapore Rail Test Centre, rigorous testing ensures the reliability of Singapore’s rail network. This is the first railway testing facility in Southeast Asia. It is located in Tuas.
The Singapore Rail Test Centre, or SRTC, occupies about 50 hectares. It sits on the former Raffles Country Club site. The SRTC plays a vital role in Singapore’s efforts to upgrade the rail network. It allows thorough testing of trains and railway systems. This happens before they are used on main lines.
Before 2023, the SRTC was known as the Integrated Train Testing Centre or ITTC. The SRTC opening was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first phase opened in November 2023. Full completion is expected in 2025.
The SRTC includes sophisticated workshops. It also has an operations control center and an administration building. The SRTC has three types of tracks for safety tests. The SRTC design incorporates green building features. These features include LED lights and solar panels.
The SRTC has 11 kilometers of track. These tracks are compatible with various signalling systems. Power is supplied by both 750V direct-current third rail and 25kV alternate current overhead catenary. The tracks include a 3-kilometer endurance track. There is also a 4.8-kilometer S-curved track. A 3-kilometer high-speed track allows testing up to 100 kilometers per hour.
GS Engineering and Construction Corp was awarded the contract to build the ITTC. The contract was worth S$639.5 million. The SRTC is designed to achieve Green Mark Platinum certification. This includes energy-efficient solutions like solar power.
The SRTC fosters collaboration. Engineers, operators, and manufacturers work together. They streamline innovations. These innovations keep Singapore’s rail network efficient. They also ensure it is reliable and ready for the future. The Singapore Rail Test Centre strengthens rail reliability. It benefits all rail commuters.
