Hidden within the bustling city of Versailles, the Chapelle Saint Joseph de Glatigny whispers tales of faith and community. The Chapelle isn’t merely a building. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the Capuchin friars who once called this place home. The year was 1923. The Capuchin friars, present in Versailles since 1852, laid the first stone of their new convent on Boulevard de Glatigny. This marked the beginning of Chapelle Saint Joseph de Glatigny. A year later, in 1924, the crypt beneath the Chapelle was blessed, a sacred space hidden beneath the bustling world above. The Chapelle Saint Joseph de Glatigny continued to rise, brick by brick, a beacon of faith in the heart of Glatigny. The wait was finally over in September 1934. The Chapelle Saint Joseph de Glatigny was officially inaugurated and blessed by Bishop Roland-Gosselin. The Chapelle Saint Joseph de Glatigny became more than just a place of worship. It was a hub of community activity. The first charity sale for the missions took place in December 1932. This tradition continues today with the annual Missionary Days. Even after the Capuchin friars left Versailles in 2006, their legacy lived on. The diocese purchased the convent buildings. Chapelle Saint Joseph de Glatigny was entrusted to the Sainte-Jeanne d’Arc parish. The convent buildings now house the Maison St Jean-Baptiste. Today, the Chapelle Saint Joseph de Glatigny remains a vibrant part of the community, hosting three Sunday masses that draw large crowds of worshippers. It’s a place where the echoes of history blend seamlessly with the present, a reminder of the enduring power of faith and community.
