Stand here before the Lisboa Capital Verde 2020 Mural. It is a powerful symbol of Lisbon’s commitment to a greener future.
This impressive mural, over a thousand square meters in size, was created by Smile1art. The Galeria de Arte Urbana GAU supported this artistic initiative. It was officially completed on May 27, 2020. The mural is located on Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian. It sits between Praça de Espanha and the Aqueduto das Águas Livres.
The Lisboa Capital Verde 2020 Mural is also known as the Mural do Compromisso. This name symbolizes the commitment of around 200 entities. These include companies, schools, and public organizations. All pledged to support Lisboa Capital Verde Europeia 2020. They also committed to Ação Climática Lisboa 2030.
These entities agreed to contribute to Lisbon’s environmental goals for the next decade. Their pledge included over two thousand initiatives. These initiatives include LED lighting and water reuse. They also incorporate photovoltaic equipment and electric vehicles. Recycling and eliminating disposable plastics are part of the plan too.
Smile1art created the mural using graffiti and tile. The tile work was done in collaboration with the Viúva Lamego factory. A video of the creation process is available on Facebook. The GAU also has a photo gallery of the project.
Lisbon’s designation as the European Green Capital in 2020 spurred other initiatives. In January, the city saw its largest single-day tree planting. Twenty thousand trees were planted across various zones. Also, the first Portuguese flag made from ocean plastic was created for the opening ceremony.
The Lisboa Capital Verde 2020 Mural stands as a vibrant reminder. It reflects Lisbon’s dedication to environmental action. It showcases the power of art to inspire change. It unites the community towards a sustainable future. Take a moment to appreciate the scale and message. Consider the commitment it represents. Let this artwork inspire your own actions. Support a greener planet.
