Could a mosque’s foundation truly mirror a life’s dedication? Here at the Allahu Ekber Ahlibeyt Camii, such a story unfolds. This mosque, nestled in Istanbul’s Esenyurt district, holds a tale of community spirit and personal sacrifice. It began in the year 2000. The Kars Arpaçay Social Aid Association, recognizing the community’s need, decided to build a small mosque. This initial mescit, as it’s called in Turkish, soon proved too small for the growing community. Driven by the increasing interest, they embarked on constructing the Allahu Ekber Ahlibeyt Camii that we see today. One man, Cafer Güngör, stands out in this story. He tirelessly labored on the mosque’s construction, from its foundation to its completion in 2010. Tragically, after witnessing the mosque’s completion, Güngör passed away. He became the first person whose funeral prayer was held within the very walls he helped raise. He also had the honor of giving the first call to prayer, the “Aliyyen veliyullah” echoing through the newly finished space. His dedication became a poignant symbol of the Allahu Ekber Ahlibeyt Camii’s spirit. The construction, spanning a decade, also saw significant contributions from various individuals. Seyyid Yusuf Öztürk financed much of the basic structure, while Koçerler Kereste provided a large portion of the lumber. The community, too, played a vital role. They contributed through donations and labor, ensuring the mosque’s realization. Today, the Allahu Ekber Ahlibeyt Camii stands as a testament to their collective effort. It serves not only as a place of worship. It is also a center for social gatherings, cultural events, and community support. It boasts a 650 square meter foundation, with a 400 square meter prayer area for men and a 350 square meter area for women. Additional facilities include a morgue, kitchen, tea room, ablution areas, and a hall for charitable works, totaling 2200 square meters. The Allahu Ekber Ahlibeyt Camii remains a vibrant hub. It fosters unity and offers a place of solace, echoing the unwavering dedication of those who brought it to life.
