Have you ever heard of Rylie, Texas? Right here, before you, stands a plaque marking this historical spot. Rylie doesn’t exist anymore. It was once a bustling community in southeastern Dallas County, but it’s now a ghost town. Its story is hidden in the history books and in the memories of those who knew it. Established in the 1870s, the town was built on the backs of hardworking settlers. The Texas Trunk line ran through it, bringing with it a newfound promise of prosperity as a shipping point for cotton and cordwood. In 1883, Rylie had two churches, one school, a general store, and a population of 25. But like many rural communities, its fate was tied to the whims of industrialization and development. The town moved in 1930 to a new location a quarter mile away, a mere shadow of its former self. Despite its growth in the 1960s, Rylie was consumed by the expanding boundaries of Dallas. It eventually vanished from the map. If you want to glimpse its history, just cast your eyes upon this plaque. It whispers tales of a past filled with dreams and ambitions. Today, only the plaque stands as a reminder of the vibrant past of Rylie, Texas, a place where generations lived, labored, and dreamed.
