Waves lap gently against the shore. The salty air carries the scent of the Pacific. Before you lies Iroquois Point.

Iroquois Point a name echoing with naval history. It’s more than just a residential area. This land holds the echoes of two USS Iroquois ships. One a steam sloop a hospital ship tending to sailors in Honolulu Harbor. The other a steam tug assisting Commander Merry at Naval Station Honolulu. Both played pivotal roles near this very spot.

During World War II the Seabees transformed this area. They built a massive Seabee encampment housing thousands of construction battalion members. A chapel stood among the barracks a testament to their faith. They also constructed an Advance Base Reshipment Depot and an Advance Base Construction Depot. Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 523 was stationed at the reshipment depot.

Interestingly Iroquois Point even had an annex to the Bishop Point Section Station and Net Depot. Across the harbor channel this annex included barracks officers quarters and a substantial pier. It was a vital part of naval operations.

In the 1960s housing was built on the north side. The area sat empty until 2003 when extensive renovations began. The project brought in countless tradesmen modernizing the homes. The development known as Kapilina Beach Homes once called Waterfront at Pu’uloa and Iroquois Point Island Club now thrives. The upgrades were extensive. Amenities were added a community center enhancing the neighborhood.

Today Iroquois Point stands as a unique blend of past and present. It’s a vibrant community. It’s a place where history and modern life coexist. It offers stunning views of Pearl Harbor. Residents live under the flight path of Honolulu International Airport. The low-flying jets are a constant reminder of the area’s connection to aviation. Iroquois Point a place where history whispers in the breeze. It’s a story written in waves and concrete.
