Glittering like a beacon Tomorrow Square pierces the sky. This is not just another skyscraper. It is a symbol of Shanghai’s ambition.

Tomorrow Square stands tall. It embodies the city’s dreams. It is located in the heart of Puxi near People’s Square. Tomorrow Square is more than a building. It is a statement.

Completed in 2003, Tomorrow Square reaches a height of 285 meters. That is 935 feet. It has 63 floors. This makes it the eighth-tallest building in Shanghai.

Designed by John Portman & Associates, Tomorrow Square is a mixed-use marvel. It houses a 342-room JW Marriott hotel. There are also 255 executive apartment units.

Look closely at Tomorrow Square’s unique shape. The square base transforms as it ascends. It becomes a diagonal square near the top. This design posed challenges. Engineers had to devise a unique exterior vertical support system.

The building’s foundations are robust. Eighty-meter-long bored piles support a column mat. This anchors the slender tower. It protects against wind and earthquakes.

Inside Tomorrow Square, flat slabs support the hotel floors. Beam and slab construction supports the office floors. Shear walls and frame action provide lateral stability.

The podium base spans six levels. This sky-lit atrium includes a food court. You will also find bowling lanes, shops, and restaurants. Entertainment venues, a conference center, and a health club are also located here.

Did you know Tomorrow Square has a quirky secret? The JW Marriott hotel once held a Guinness World Record. Its executive library on the 60th floor was the “highest library from ground level”. This award was given in 2016.

Tomorrow Square initially was designed to include 60 floors, however it has 63 floors today.

Tomorrow Square isn’t just about height. It represents Shanghai’s leap into the future. It is a place where innovation meets luxury. It is where dreams touch the clouds. So, as you gaze up at Tomorrow Square remember its story. This square is not only a building, but a symbol of Shanghai’s dynamic spirit.
