The center’s main mission is to revitalize and celebrate the fishing industry that thrives in the Hiroshima City area. It showcases the incredible diversity of seafood that calls the Seto Inland Sea home, particularly the bounty found in Hiroshima Bay and the Ota River. As you explore the exhibits, you’ll encounter fascinating artifacts – the tools and equipment used by generations of fishermen in old fishing villages. You’ll learn about their lives, their struggles and the delicate dance they shared with the sea. And of course, no visit to the Hiroshima City Fisheries Promotion Center would be complete without learning about oysters, a local delicacy. The center regularly hosts special events, drawing locals and tourists alike. But there’s one event that truly warms the heart. On the third Sunday of every month, except in May, the center transforms into a “Seaside Classroom.” Imagine the excitement as local elementary school children, accompanied by their parents, gather to discover the wonders of the underwater world. They learn about different fish species, fishing techniques, and the importance of preserving this precious ecosystem.
