In 1925, a cornerstone was laid. This marked the beginning of the Ivanhoe Baptist Church Chapel. The church stands proudly at the corner of Livingstone Street and Waterdale Road. The Ivanhoe Baptist Church Chapel has served the community for over a century. It’s a place of welcome, connection, and spiritual exploration. The church’s red brick facade, with its steeply pitched roof and Gothic-inspired windows, hints at its rich history. The unique corner tower, positioned at a 45-degree angle, draws the eye upward to its copper-clad spire. This architectural marvel was designed by L.E. Warner and built by G.H. Hannah. The church officially opened in July 1925 with a series of services led by various reverends, including the pastor, Rev. T. P. Trinham. The Ivanhoe Baptist Church Chapel thrived, particularly in the 1950s under Rev Tom Keat. However, like many churches, it experienced a decline in subsequent decades. In the 1990s, the church embraced a renewed focus on community engagement. They transformed their old building into the Livingstone Community Centre, a vibrant hub offering diverse programs and services. This transformation solidified their identity as “A Church for the Community.” Today, the Ivanhoe Baptist Church Chapel continues to welcome a diverse congregation. It offers Sunday services, life groups, and a variety of community programs. The church’s commitment to love, kindness, and humble service resonates within its walls and extends into the surrounding community.
