Let’s turn back the clock to 1887 when Gaston Avenue Baptist Church was born. This haven of faith, located on Gaston Avenue, quickly blossomed. For decades, it thrived, growing its membership to over 7,000 people. Known for its dedication to missions, this church sent missionaries and financial support to every corner of the globe. It truly touched lives in Dallas, across North Texas, and even around the world. But time, as it often does, brought change. The church faced the stark reality of decreasing attendance. So, in 1990, Gaston Avenue Baptist Church moved from its original location to the current spot on Greenville Avenue. They renamed it Gaston Oaks Baptist Church, a symbolic move that represented a new beginning. This move, unfortunately, caused a significant shift in the church’s attendance. However, Gaston Oaks still held fast to its calling, its heart focused on reaching out to the diverse communities surrounding it. The church’s vision evolved into a beacon for refugee and immigrant communities. Out of this desire, in 2012, Gaston Christian Center took root. The church shared its resources and space with other community organizations and ministries, creating a dynamic hub for numerous nonprofits. Gaston Christian Center welcomes all, offering a haven for various congregations who speak different languages, providing healthcare for the uninsured, ESL and computer training, and online discipleship for specific groups in Africa. Today, the heart of Gaston Oaks Baptist Church continues to beat strongly within the Gaston Christian Center, a testament to a legacy of faith and community service that spans over a century.
