Slipping through a crack in the earth, feeling the cool, damp air against your face – that’s what awaits you at Wells Cave. Don’t worry, though, you won’t be squeezed as tightly as you might think! We’re standing now at the base of Sugarloaf Peak in the Cathedral Ranges State Park, home to the thrilling Wells Cave Track. This isn’t your average walk in the park. Wells Cave Track is famous for being a challenging climb, even labeled a grade 5 – that means it’s for experienced hikers only. You’ll need to scramble up rocks, using your hands as much as your feet. The highlight is definitely Wells Cave, a narrow passage between two huge rock slabs. You’ll need to take off your backpack and shimmy sideways to get through. Claustrophobic? Maybe a little. Unforgettable? Absolutely. Now, here’s a little secret: Wells Cave isn’t actually a cave. It’s more of a deep, narrow fissure. But don’t let that diminish the sense of adventure. This challenging climb through Wells Cave is just the beginning of an epic journey on the Wells Cave Track. You’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views from the top of Sugarloaf Peak, a memory you’ll carry with you long after you’ve left the rugged beauty of the Cathedral Ranges.
