Step inside Christ United Methodist Church. Feel the warmth of community. This isn’t just a building. It’s a story of faith resilience and growth. Christ United Methodist Church began as Christ’s Foundry a mission of the United Methodist Church. In 2001 the North Texas Conference decided to plant a new church in a rapidly growing Hispanic neighborhood in Dallas. Research showed a huge need. Eighty percent of the 48000 people living in the area were Hispanic. There weren’t enough United Methodist churches to serve this community.
The church’s founding pastor Reverend Owen Ross started small. Bible studies in his living room. Sunday services in an apartment complex’s storage room. All services were in Spanish. The small group’s dedication grew the church. They moved to Walnut Hill United Methodist Church for a morning service. They continued to grow. In 2007 they started a campaign to build their own sanctuary. They eventually held all services at Lovers Lane UMC.
Finally in 2011 the building was finished. In May 2012 it was consecrated. The church stands at the intersection of Webb Chapel Road and Park Lane. It’s a testament to perseverance. The transition from Reverend Owen Ross to Reverend Amy Spaur in 2017 continued the church’s mission. This mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. They serve children youth and families.
Christ United Methodist Church is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a vibrant community. It’s a place where people find faith. It’s a testament to the power of faith and community. It’s a place where anyone is welcome to meet Jesus Christ engage in community and discover their gifts. It lives on the legacy of those who first envisioned it and the dedication of those who continue its mission. This is more than a church. This is a living testament to faith in action.
