Have you considered where children learn and grow in Fukuoka? Right here stands Fukuoka City Meihoku Elementary School. It is a place of learning. It fosters dreams.
Fukuoka City Meihoku Elementary School is a public elementary school. It is in Nishi Ward Fukuoka City. The school opened its doors on April 1 2007.
Meihoku Elementary School’s location has a story. The area transformed over time. Meihoku area was once a quiet port town. It was also a coal mining town. The opening of the subway caused big changes. The area around Meinohama Station developed rapidly. Large-scale land reclamation occurred by 1990. This created the “West Fukuoka Marina Town.” The population increased greatly. Existing schools could not accommodate all students.
In 1996 Aiomihama Elementary School opened. It separated from Meinohama Elementary School. However the number of children kept growing. By 2003 Meinohama Elementary had 35 classes. Uchinohama Elementary had 34. Some students had classes in prefabricated school buildings. A new school was needed.
The city decided to establish a new school. It would separate from Meinohama and Uchinohama Elementary Schools. The former Meinohama Junior High School site became available. Meinohama Junior High relocated to Aiomihama in 2006. The existing junior high school building was renovated. This became Meihoku Elementary School.
Renovations included earthquake reinforcement. Elevators were installed for accessibility. Multi-purpose rooms were created. These spaces allow various activities. The location of Meihoku Elementary is close to its origin school. It is only 200 meters away from Meinohama Elementary. A mountain lies between them.
In February 2003 the Fukuoka City Council discussed the school situation. They recognized the overcrowding issue. They decided to reorganize two elementary schools into three. One new elementary school would be established. Meinohama Junior High would move to Aiomihama. The current junior high building would be renovated.
Fukuoka City Meihoku Elementary School was the 148th elementary school in the city. It was established by modifying the old Meinohama Junior High School. A ceremony marked the 10th anniversary of its opening in September 2016.
The school has an educational goal. It aims to nurture students with rich humanity. They should study well live brightly and grow strong. The school motto is “Dreaming Learning Shining Working.” Fukuoka City Meihoku Elementary School fosters the Meihoku Sharks. These are healthy children. They have strong minds and bodies.
