Can you imagine two brothers, so close, they wrote over a hundred books together? Here at École élémentaire Jérôme et Jean Tharaud, those brothers’ names echo through the halls. This school, opened in 1965, honors Jérôme and Jean Tharaud, two literary figures deeply connected to Versailles. École élémentaire Jérôme et Jean Tharaud isn’t just a school. It’s a living tribute to these prolific writers. The Tharaud brothers, inseparable in their literary pursuits, traveled the world, capturing their experiences in countless books and articles. From their early work, “Le Coltineur débile” in 1898, to their final collaboration, “La double confidence” in 1951, their joint career spanned over fifty years. Their travels took them to Morocco, a place that deeply captivated them. They even wrote extensively about their time there, capturing the beauty and wonder of the region. Jérôme, the elder, was even elected to the Académie française in 1938, a testament to their literary impact. Interestingly, his election caused a bit of a stir. The Academy debated whether to elect only half of a writing duo. They eventually decided to elect Jérôme first, and then Jean later. Jean joined the Académie française in 1946. Here at École élémentaire Jérôme et Jean Tharaud, their legacy continues. The energy of hundreds of students, from CP to CM2, fills the classrooms and playground. The school, with its eight classes and over 175 students, is a vital part of the Versailles community. It’s a place where learning flourishes. And the spirit of the Tharaud brothers, with their love of storytelling and exploration, lives on.
