Consider this. The Circle isn’t just a place. It is a social experiment brought to life. Here at The Circle in London, the British reality television game show was filmed. This show, the original of The Circle franchise, bills itself as a game based around social media.

In The Circle, anyone can be anyone. Contestants live in the same apartment building. However, they are never allowed to meet face-to-face. They communicate through messaging devices. They create profiles that can be genuine or altered. They can even play as someone else entirely. Multiple players can share one profile.

The Circle contestants rate each other throughout the game. Eliminations, or blockings, happen when selected players become influencers. These influencers then decide who gets blocked. Blocked players leave the game but can briefly meet one player still competing. New players usually replace them.

During the final, the contestants rate each other one last time. The highest-rated player wins the series and a cash prize.

The Circle app is key. Each apartment has screens in every room. Players use these to talk with each other. They create profiles that include age, relationship status, a bio, and a profile picture. Every day, players share a status update. Sometimes, they can upload another photo. The Circle app is the only way players communicate during the competition.

Most episodes feature a minigame. These games help players bond, learn about each other, and test who is a catfish. Some games are divisive.

Rating exercises also occur frequently. Players rank each other, and an average score determines the overall placements. The top-ranked players become influencers. They have the power to eliminate other players.

The first season of The Circle was filmed in London. Later seasons were produced in a new apartment building in Salford, England. This location also became the production site for other versions of the show. The apartment building has twelve furnished apartments ready for the players. It also features an exercise room and a rooftop lounge. These areas are equipped with cameras and television screens.

One room in the building is the testimonial room. Blocked players go here to create their goodbye video. Outside, a large lit-up circle is made of an aluminum track with LED lights.

Across from the apartment building was the control room. It was previously a disused college campus. Between twenty and thirty producers and camera operators worked here. They recorded and sent all the messages from The Circle.

The Circle has earned awards. These include Best Innovative Use of Technology in Storytelling and Best Competition Reality Format. The show has been nominated for a National Television Award.

The Circle offers a unique look at social interaction. It explores how people present themselves online. It raises questions about authenticity and connection in the digital age.
