Is this the original location of Saint Columba Church? Looking at the current building, it’s hard to imagine it started in a much humbler setting. Saint Columba Church was established in 1884. It began as a mission parish of St. Kevin’s, which was located on 105th and Torrence. The original Saint Columba Church was situated at 133rd and High Avenue, a street now known as Green Bay. The church’s history is deeply intertwined with the growth of Hegewisch itself. Over the years, Saint Columba Church thrived and evolved. It even got a brand new building! In 1951, a new Church/School complex was built, replacing the old wood frame structure. This expansion marked a significant milestone for the church, reflecting its growing congregation and commitment to education. Today, Saint Columba Church stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of faith and community in the Hegewisch neighborhood.
