In 1453, Kadı Asker Mehmet Efendi established a place of worship. This place would become known as the Kadı Asker Mehmet Efendi Parmakkapı Cami. The original structure met its demise in 1766 due to an earthquake. That same year, Mustafa Ağa rebuilt it, breathing new life into the community’s spiritual center. The Kadı Asker Mehmet Efendi Parmakkapı Cami faced adversity again in 1918. A fire swept through, leaving it in ruins. The mosque’s location played a role in its next chapter. During the construction of Vatan Caddesi, the mosque was demolished. But the spirit of the community remained strong. Generous individuals stepped forward, and after 1960, the Kadı Asker Mehmet Efendi Parmakkapı Cami was reborn once more. Even this rebuilt structure was not immune to disaster. The 1999 earthquake inflicted significant damage. In 2013, after being deemed unsafe, it was demolished. The community’s need for a place of worship persisted. The Fatih Municipality, understanding this need, embarked on a mission. They designed a new mosque, drawing inspiration from traditional Ottoman architecture. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality took on the construction. The result is the Kadı Asker Mehmet Efendi Parmakkapı Cami you see today. It stands ready to serve the community, a testament to resilience and faith. The mosque boasts Marmara marble in its courtyard, mihrab, and minber. The minber features a wooden preacher’s pulpit and a wooden muezzin’s platform. The interior showcases a unique calligraphy application, adding a touch of artistry to the sacred space. The Kadı Asker Mehmet Efendi Parmakkapı Cami can accommodate approximately 1200 worshippers. It stands as a symbol of the community’s enduring spirit, a place where history and faith intertwine.
