“Bringing Jesus to People” – a mission statement boldly displayed by Hosanna Lutheran Church. It’s a call to action, a reminder of the church’s core values. It all began in 1980, sparked by the vision of a young Pastor Bill Bohline. Imagine him, full of zeal, knocking on 1,200 doors in the south metro area. His mission? To gather families and create a vibrant Lutheran church centered around Jesus and the Bible. That’s how Hosanna Lutheran Church was born. The very name, “Hosanna,” speaks volumes. It’s a word of praise, reflecting the joy and thanksgiving that fueled those early members. From humble beginnings at Orchard Lake Elementary, with its first service attracting 275 souls, Hosanna Lutheran Church embarked on a journey of remarkable growth. The congregation moved from Buck Hill Ski Chalet to Christina Huddleston Elementary Commons, finally establishing its first permanent home at 15601 Maple Island Road in Burnsville in 1984. With each move, the church’s impact magnified. It became known for its solid biblical teachings, lively worship, and a strong sense of community. But Hosanna Lutheran Church’s vision extended beyond its walls. It embraced local and global missions, extending helping hands to communities in Ethiopia, India, and Haiti.
