Suddenly the school bell rings. Kildevældsskolen is calling. It stands here on Bellmansgade in Østerbro. Kildevældsskolen is not just one building. It is a collection of buildings with a rich history.

Kildevældsskolen came to be in 1982. It was created from two schools merging. These were Vognmandsmarkens Skole and Bryggervangens Skole. Imagine the excitement of bringing two school communities together.

The oldest buildings of Kildevældsskolen date back to the early 20th century. Vognmandsmarkens Skole was built in 1912. Bryggervangens Skole followed in 1919. Hans Wright designed Vognmandsmarkens Skole. His vision helped shape the school we see today.

In 2005, Kildevældsskolen expanded. A 10th-grade center was added. The school also boasts a large multihal. This hall is used for sports, theater, and musicals. It is a place for students to express themselves.

Kildevældsskolen provides education for students from 0 to 10th grade. The school has between two and four tracks. Anne Marker is the school principal. Mette Mertz leads the school board. About 65 to 70 teachers work here. They shape the minds of the future.

The school has a challenging history. During the German occupation of 1940-45, Vognmandsmarken Skole was seized. This happened on April 9, 1940. However, the occupying forces quickly left. Students were taught at Bryggervangens Skole.

The school was seized again on August 11. Students went back to Bryggervangens Skole. Then, Bryggervangens Skole was also seized on October 5, 1943. Students were moved to Vibenhus and Strandvejsskolen. Vognmandsmarkens students went to Klostervængets Skole.

After the occupation, Vognmandsmarken Skole became a military hospital. It was not vacated until September 1, 1945. Students from Strandvejsskolen joined the returning students. Strandvejsskolen had been seized on March 23, 1945.

Kildevældsskolen has two memorials. They honor nine former students. These students lost their lives in the resistance movement. Their sacrifice is a reminder of the cost of freedom.

Many notable people attended the schools that now make up Kildevældsskolen. Dirch Passer, the famous actor went to Bryggervangen Skole. Leif Petersen, a playwright and author, attended both Vognmandsmarkens Skole and Bryggervangens Skole. Colette Brix, a politician, was a student at Vognmandsmarkens Skole. More recently, Youssef Toutouh, a football player, and Astrid Glenner-Frandsen, a sprinter, attended Kildevældsskolen.

Today, Kildevældsskolen continues to educate and inspire. It adapts to the needs of its students. The school’s phone number is 3317 3131. The school’s email address is kildevaeld@kk.dk. The school office is open from 7:30 to 14:45 Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, it closes earlier at 13:45. Kildevældsskolen stands as a testament to education and community.
