From its humble beginnings as “Zion’s Watch Tower and Herald of Christ’s Presence” in 1879, Vagttårnet has become a global phenomenon. Here at its international headquarters in Holbæk, Denmark, the legacy of this publication, now known as “The Watchtower – Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom,” unfolds. Vagttårnet, in its Danish edition, is printed in England and distributed worldwide. Since 2008, Vagttårnet has offered two monthly editions. One edition serves as a study guide for Jehovah’s Witnesses, while the other is designed for the public. Both editions, however, are available to anyone interested in exploring its contents. The public edition of Vagttårnet boasts a staggering average print run of over 93 million copies, making it one of the most widely distributed magazines globally, translated into an astounding 414 languages. The study edition, also impressive, has a circulation of nearly 14 million copies. This edition, used in the weekly Watchtower Study conducted in congregations worldwide, forms the cornerstone of Jehovah’s Witnesses’ primary meeting. Vagttårnet declares its purpose as threefold. First, it aims to uphold Jehovah God as the universe’s sovereign Lord, interpreting world events through the lens of Biblical prophecies. Second, it seeks to comfort people with the promise of God’s Kingdom, which will eliminate oppression and transform the Earth into a paradise. Third, it encourages faith in Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice paves the way for eternal life. Though published by Jehovah’s Witnesses, Vagttårnet maintains a non-political stance, relying solely on the Bible as its authority.
