Ever wondered where Turkey’s modern shopping mall era began? It all started right here at Ataköy Galleria Shopping Mall. This wasn’t just another construction project. It was a vision brought to life.

In the late 1980s, Turkey was changing fast. Prime Minister Turgut Özal, inspired by the Houston Galleria in the United States, envisioned a similar modern shopping experience for Turkey. Thus, Ataköy Galleria was born.

Opened in 1988, Ataköy Galleria quickly became a symbol of modern life in Istanbul. People flocked here from all over the city. Especially on weekends, everyone wanted to experience the Galleria. Its location was perfect. Close to the Ataköy Yacht Marina and Atatürk International Airport, it also drew many tourists.

For years, Ataköy Galleria stood unmatched. It pioneered the concept of modern shopping, blazing a trail for other malls to follow in Istanbul.

Let’s step inside Ataköy Galleria. You will find around 140 stores spread over two floors. An average of 1.2 million visitors come here every month. In its early days, it even housed Printemps, the famous French department store. Today, you’ll discover upscale Turkish brands, fast food restaurants, movie theaters and entertainment centers. There is even a bowling alley and an ice skating rink here.

Did you know that Ataköy Galleria also boasts a covered car park for 2,000 vehicles? But here’s a little-known fact. In 1990, the International Council of Shopping Centers recognized Ataköy Galleria as the world’s most outstanding mall. This award was for its sophisticated blueprint design, rapid construction, and unique structural features.

Ataköy Galleria isn’t just a shopping center. It is a landmark. It reflects Turkey’s transformation and its embrace of modern life. Take a moment to appreciate the history and innovation that surrounds you here. This is where Turkey’s modern shopping experience began leaving an enduring mark on the city and its people.
